Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 10, 2026
The Play Cafe Registry ("the Registry," "we," "us") is operated by The Homie Hub ("The Homie Hub"), based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Registry is a subsidiary project of The Homie Hub. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it — in plain language, because that is how we write everything.
Questions, requests, or concerns: info@thehomiehub.org.
What we collect
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address (used for sign-in links and account communication) and any passport name you choose. Passport names are displayed publicly — pick one you're comfortable seeing on a leaderboard.
Check-ins and passport activity. When you stamp your passport or check in at a cafe, we record which cafe, the date and time, and — if you grant location access — whether your location verified the visit. We check your location in the moment and do not store your coordinates. We keep only a yes/no verification result. Declining location access still records your check-in; it simply won't count toward public leaderboards. We may also record whether it was raining at the cafe's location at check-in time (looked up by the cafe's address, not yours), because we award a seal for that.
Owner and business information. If you claim a listing or request an entry, we collect your name, business email, role, and the business details you provide. Business listing information (names, addresses, hours, events) is public by nature — that's the point of a registry.
Uploaded images. Cafe owners may upload images, including weekly schedule graphics that we process with an AI service to draft events. See "Service providers" below.
Emails you give us on purpose. Digest subscriptions, entry requests, and Recess requests collect an email and, where relevant, a ZIP code or region so we know where you are asking from.
Usage counts. We count listing page views and outbound link clicks in aggregate to show owners how their entry is doing. We do not build individual browsing profiles, we do not store IP addresses with these counts, and we do not use third-party advertising trackers. There are no ads on the Registry.
What we do NOT do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not run third-party ad or social-media tracking pixels. We do not send marketing email you didn't ask for.
How we use information
To run the product: signing you in, recording your passport, computing leaderboards and seals, publishing business listings and events, sending digests you subscribed to, and responding when you contact us. To keep the record honest: we may review activity to prevent fake check-ins or fraudulent listing claims.
What is public
Business listings, events, and entry details are public. Passport names and verified check-in counts appear on public leaderboards unless you turn off "Appear on public leaderboards" in your passport settings. Your email address is never public. Your individual check-in history is never public — leaderboards show totals only.
Service providers
We use a small set of services to run the Registry, each receiving only what it needs: our database and authentication provider (Supabase) stores account and product data; our hosting provider serves the site; Anthropic processes owner-uploaded schedule images and certain public event-page text to extract event details; Google provides business hours for listings via their Places service; Open-Meteo provides weather forecasts (we send cafe or region coordinates, never yours). These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes beyond providing the service.
Children
The Registry is made for parents and business owners. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Accounts are for adults. We suggest passport names that don't include children's full names — "The Caylor Crew" tells the leaderboard everything it needs to know.
Retention and deletion
We keep account data while your account is active. Want your account and passport deleted, or your email removed from a list? Email info@thehomiehub.org from the address on the account and we'll take care of it. Business listing information may remain in the registry (it is public-record-style business information), but claimed associations and owner contact details will be removed on request.
Cookies and local storage
We use the minimum required to function: authentication session data, and small local-storage flags (for example, so an animation plays once instead of every visit, or so a repeat page view in the same session isn't double-counted). No advertising cookies.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the effective date and note the change plainly. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
